USAA supports government's land-plan but is concerned over none-consultation and exclusion.
USAAA believes that the strategic plan and the proposals therein are meant to create debate and discussion around the lack of transformation within the agricultural sector. We support the Department with this plan. It is however most unfortunate that white farmer organizations and some political parties have rubbished the plan without engaging with the affected party namely Black people. Furthermore, it is even more disturbing that Government meets with the very same entities to discuss possible solutions to a problem that’s being faced by farming communities broader that the latter only.
After 16 years of democracy it is unfortunate that white agriculture has not been able to show leadership in creating a conducive environment for transformation.
We therefore call upon Minister Nkwinti and DG Tozi Gwanya to engage with us, as Black farmers and not assume that talking only to white farmers would present a resolution to problems in land reform. If the former persist with this approach, it is quite evident that Government is undermining Black South African farmers.
No solution for Black farmers can be found without the direct involvement of Black farmers. The recapitalization of farms and re-distribution of farms is a priority and the DRDLR must include the views and aspirations of Black people.
The establishment of a working group with white commercial farmers clearly undermines the significant role being played by black South African commercial-, small-scale; and subsistence farmers. This makes a total mockery of the development and empowerment goals that are currently being chased in a feverish fashion.
It is therefore our wish to engage with Government as a matter of great urgency and subsequently take the process forward in an inclusive manner with White Commercial Agriculture.
